HAPPILY EVER AFTER

Benjamin believes he is happy—until an app convinces him otherwise. He encounters an animated pig, his new emotional assistant, tasked with reshaping his outlook and making him truly happy. But to achieve this, Benjamin must confront himself, unearth his deepest thoughts, and navigate a personal transformation. His journey unfolds through inner landscapes of happiness, shifting weather patterns, and unruly self-perceptions.

As natural ecosystems degrade, happiness guides promote the idea of cultivating flourishing inner worlds. Our team led by Benjamin Burger and Mona de Weerdt takes this rhetoric seriously, oscillating between virtual and physical realities to explore what it means to achieve happiness. But does absolute happiness truly await at the journey’s end? And what price must we pay to reach it?

In our current performative research, we examine the narratives of positive psychology and their impact on individuals and society. In a hybrid digital-analogue performance, we present early scenic explorations and invite the audience to participate in their aesthetic experiment.
